New Aimee Mann album in May
Aimee Mann has a new album coming out this May, and I, for one, am atwitter at the prospect of getting my scabrous little paws on a copy. I’m currently listening to her most recent album, “Lost In Space,” and each song is as artfully crafted as the drawings in the accompanying booklet. The new album, “The Forgotten Arm,” is a concept album, an idea not entirely new since many of her songs are story-like (storitular? storific?). Most folks who have heard of Aimee either know of her from her ‘Til Tuesday days, or from the movie “Magnolia,” which was inspired by her songs. Michael Penn fans (both of them) will know her as Mrs. Penn. Her best stuff is on her independently produced records. A truly independent artist and a fantastic songwriter.
She’s posting three songs from the new album every week on her web site. Click the link to “Nine-toed Songwriter” in my link list. And no, she in fact does have ten toes, but she is immortalized as the nine-toed nihilist girlfriend in “The Big Lebowski,” the greatest film ever made.
Check back in early May for what can be expected to be a slobbering review. I may even scan and post my signed set list from her show in Toronto a couple years ago.
